Many of you may know that I'm helping to organise CyberMummy 2010, the UK's first mum blogger conference. There will more than 100 of my online mum chums there, and we'll be talking shop, sipping wine and nibbling munchies. It's all the buzz on Twitter (#cybermummy) and the BIG question is ... what to wear?
I really hadn't given this much thought. My usual uniform is Gap Curvy jeans and a T-Shirt. Perhaps, however, given my role as one of the organisers (along with Jen and Sian) I should branch out a bit. Make a good impression and all that.
My friends at Glam Media UK (you can see their ads on my right panel) have asked if I would like to write a series of paid posts for eBay's new fashion outlet. This fits really well with me for a couple reasons. One, I buy most of my clothes at outlet stores (have I told you that my hubby is Scottish?) and two, I'm a busy mother of three and being able to shop between school pickup and doing lunch the laundry really appeals. So I'll be contributing a post over at Life4Less once a week. My goal: find something to wear to CyberMummy 2010 and not spend a fortune.
The eBay Fashion Outlet brings outlet hopping to your home. You can get high street brands for women such Kookai, Dune, House of Fraser and Littlewoods for as much as 75% off. They carry men's clothing as well. And if you don't love it, you can return it!
There are a few things you need to know about me:
- I am a UK size 14 (on a good day);
- I'm fairly tall(ish);
- I have a big bottom and thighs (god how it hurts to write that);
- I had my colours done about 30 years ago and the nice woman said I would look best in black and bright colours (no pastels);
- I have brown hair and brown eyes;
- I have a small waist;
- I have flabby arms, but they are a wee bit better due to my pilates sessions;
- I have plantar fasciitis, which involves wearing shoe inserts, so I usually wear flats.
I had a browse on eBay's Fashion Outlet and spotted a couple options for the big day:
How about this Kookai sailor stripe turtle neck knit dress? The main colour is natural with brown, blue and beige stripes. There are four ivory buttons on the shoulder.
It's available in size 14. £32.The advertised regular price is £80, but it's 60 percent off, so I would be saving £48. £2.99 shipping.
The horizontal stripes are cute and would show of my small waist. Knit dresses can be tricky though, it could be too clingy emphasising my large bum.
Also the turtleneck may be a bit warm for July, but hey, this is the UK and it could actually snow on the day ;-)
Not sure what to do about shoes here. Boots would be cool, but realistically I would not do that in July, even in the UK. Hmmmm. Temping.
Option 2:
This Kookai spot print cotton shirt dress in black. £30. It's 60 percent off (regular price £75). Available in size 14 ...and 16. Postage is 2.99, so would cost a total of £32.99.
Look closely, it has spots in the print. Not sure if I like these. It is fitted at the top and has a tie waist. The material looks like it will breathe just in case it is really hot.
With my plantar fasciitis, shoes may be an issue though. I usually need flats, and with all the running around at CyberMummy, perhaps I should not risk something else. I had a quick look and the eBay Fashion Outlet has a good selection of shoes for my size 6's.
So what do you think ladies, Option 1 or Option 2? Am I being too conservative? I'm open to suggestions. Take a look and let me know if you see something else. I'll post again next week with some other options.
What are you wearing to CyberMummy 2010?
